The Falcon is a raptor with thin tapered wings which enable them to be able to fly at high speeds and change direction rapidly. The Peregrine falcons have been recorded diving at speeds well over 200 miles per hour making them the fastest moving creatures on earth. In addition, falcons have exceptional powers of vision, which has been measured at 2.6 times greater than that of human vision. At its cone, the falcon represents visionary power, strength, wisdom and guardianship. In ancient times the Egyptians associated the falcon with the Eye of Horus. Horus was believed to appear in the form of the Falcon-Headed god who could see all because one eye was the sun and the other was the moon. Among the Native Americans the falcon was a supernatural deity who resided in the Upper World (Heaven). The link between the Upper World and the earth was the sky and the falcon was able to move between the two realms as a messenger of the gods. The falcon created a powerful, intimidating figure and was associated with warfare. In European tradition, the falcon represents the huntsman and is associated with the Germanic sky-god Wodan and the Viking trickster Loki. In European tradition the falcon is considered to be a warlike symbol and is associated with focus, visionary power and strategic planning. Feeding mainly on medium sized birds such as pigeons, doves, and ducks. The peregrine falcon has been introduced into numerous cities where the pigeon population is out of control. Nesting in the highest skyscrapers, the peregrine falcons control the size of the pigeon population.
