A Fairy is a type of mythological being or legendary creature in European folklore, a form of spirit often described as metaphysical or supernatural. Sometimes the term fairy is used to describe any magical creature, while at other times the term describes only a specific type of more ethereal creature or sprite. The concept of "fairy" in the narrow sense is unique to English folklore. Fairies are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers. Fairies of one kind or another have been recorded for centuries and they have been depicted as ranging in size from very tiny up to the size of a human child. It was believed that though they were normally quite small, some fairies were able to expand their size to imitate humans. Wings, while common on Victorian fairies, were rare in the folklore, however, today, fairies are often depicted with butterfly wings. Early Christian belief held that fairies were a class of demoted angels. It was believed that when the angels revolted, God ordered the gates of heaven shut, and those still in heaven remained angels, those in hell became demons, and those caught in between became fairies. At one time it was a common belief that fairy folklore evolved from folk memories of a prehistoric race. It was suggested that the humans drove out the original inhabitants and the memories of this defeated hidden people developed in the fairy beliefs we have today. In this drawing, which is my first drawing of a fairy, I have combined her with the dragon - as the Fairy Dragon Rider. Expanding the realm of fantasy and filling them with hidden Dark Designs.
