The Falcon is a raptor with thin tapered wings which enable them to be able to fly at high speeds and change direction rapidly. Peregrine falcons have been recorded driving at speeds well over 200 miles per hour, making them the fastest moving creatures on earth. In addition, falcons have exceptional powers of vision, their vision has been measured at 2.6 times greater than that of human vision. At it core, the falcon represents visionary power, strength, wisdom and guardianship. In ancient times the Egyptians associated the falcon with the Eye of Horus. Horus was believed to appear in the form of the Falcon-Headed god who could see all because one eye was the sun and the other was the moon. The Egyptians believed that when the pharaoh died he became Horus the Falcon and soared across the sky every day in his fiery chariot. My original inspiration for drawing the falcon came from watching a nesting pair across the field from my home. They eventually raised three young falcons - it was incredible watching all five circling above on the warm air currents I now have two falcon drawings - the Falcon in Flight and the Peregrine Falcon.
