Dream Catchers originated with the Ojibwa tribe. Then, with the Pan Indian Movement of the 1960's and 1970's. the Dream Catcher was adopted by several other Indian nations. Some believe the Dream Catcher is a symbol of unity among various Indian natins and in general, identification with Native American cultures. However, other Native Americans have come to see Dream Catchers as over commercialized, and offensively misused by non-Natives. The traditional use of the Dream Catcher was to hang it above the bed and use it as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. They believe that Dream Catchers acted as a filter allowing good dreams to pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper, where as bad dreams would be caught in the net, disappearing with the light of the day. My Dream Catcher contains numerous Dark Designs (bad dreams / nightmares) trapped within the web of the Dream Catcher. There are in fact a total of fourteen animals trapped within the web. And I apologize if my Dream Catcher is in any way seen as crass commercialism. To see more interesting creations visit my web site at rgdd-darkdesigns.com
